About this collection

Statement pieces that fill a wall and quiet a room. At this size the sea sits at your eye level, the texture comes forward, and the face in the portrait meets yours the way a person does. Large Christian wall art is the piece you build the room around, above the sofa, above the bed, on the wall you see from the front door.

Above the Waves gains the most from scale, all that dark sea around one small figure. Reaching Through the Water is for the wall people sit facing. In His Presence is for a mantel, where the face lands at your own height. Safe in His Care and Carried by Grace stay quiet at scale and belong above a bed.

Where does large Christian wall art belong?

Above a sofa, above a bed, on the wall you see from the front door, or over a fireplace. The two-thirds rule covers most of it: art above furniture should span about two-thirds of that furniture's width. A 30x40 holds an 84-inch sofa alone, and it centers well above a queen or king bed. A 24x36 suits a loveseat, a full bed, or a sofa in a smaller room. In an entry or stairwell with a high ceiling, either size works on its own, and a vertical canvas rises with the wall and draws the eye up with it.

Center the piece at 57 to 60 inches from the floor, or, above furniture, leave six to ten inches between the top of the sofa or headboard and the bottom of the canvas and let the center land where it lands. Mark the outline in painter's tape first. Oversized wall art looks smaller in a photograph than on the wall, and the tape tells you the truth. These are the sizes for a sofa wall, a bed wall, a high-ceilinged entry or a mantel, and big canvas wall art is the one purchase in a room that is hard to get too large.

What does scale do to a painted scene?

It brings the texture forward. At small sizes our canvases read as images; at 30x40 the texture is visible from across the room, and the surface takes on real presence. Above the Waves gains the most: the long horizon and dark water need room, and at 30x40 the small figure of Jesus against all that sea is the whole point. Reaching Through the Water is a close, urgent scene, and at 24x36 the hand and the water fill the frame the way the moment fills the story. In His Presence, the portrait, at large scale puts the face at your own eye level, so you meet it the way you meet a person in the room. Safe in His Care and Carried by Grace are quieter and stay quiet at scale, which is why they suit a bedroom.

Framed or frameless at this size?

Both are offered, and see the product page for which finishes are available at each size. Frameless at 24x36 has a soft edge and suits minimal rooms. A natural pine frame adds warmth and a clear boundary, and on a large wall that boundary helps the eye. Black pine is the choice for dark walls, high contrast, or a room with other black frames.

The canvas itself

Frameless 24x36 is $129; framed 30x40 is $319, the largest we make. Each canvas is a print of our own artwork, made to order in the US on matte cotton-polyester canvas over a pine stretcher, with hanging hardware included.

Frequently asked

What is the largest size you make?

30x40 inches, framed in natural or black pine, at $319. The next size down is 24x36, which is $129 frameless. All six sizes are vertical, so each one rises with the wall.

Is large Bible verse wall art available here?

The canvases carry the painting alone, and the passage each scene comes from is given on the product page. If you want that passage on the wall at large scale, the painted scene from it says the same thing in a different register, and says it from across the room.

Will a 30x40 fit above a queen bed?

Yes. A queen mattress is 60 inches wide, so a single 30x40 centered above the headboard sits well inside the two-thirds guideline. Leave eight to twelve inches between the headboard and the bottom of the canvas.

How heavy is a large framed canvas, and does it need special hardware?

A framed 30x40 on a pine stretcher is light for its size, and the hanging hardware is included. Use a wall anchor rated for the weight if you are hanging on drywall without a stud, as you would for any large picture.
